This weekend - Saturday 15 March 2025
This year's Science Lab event on Saturday 15 March at The Higgins Bedford invites visitors to 'have a go' in four, free workshops.
You can use digital technology to create artworks, experiment with low tech equipment to explore colour and light, investigate our changing use of materials through archaeology and understand more about the geology around us and even your own fossil finds.

|
If you are intrigued by Alison Goodyear’s Light and Colour Community Project installation currently showing at the Higgins or interested in digital art, why not don a VR headset and learn the techniques used to create it.
Be guided by the artist to create a virtual artwork together in this free, hands on workshop. All equipment is provided, and open to all aged 13 and over.
The two sessions run from 11.30am and 2pm. Places are limited to 11 participants in each workshop, so booking is essential.

Meet geologists from the Bedfordshire Geology Group, to answer questions on all aspects of geology and of course about the current Mary Anning exhibition.
A selection of fossils and minerals will be on display, and feel free to bring along your own samples to find out more about them.
No need to book, just drop into this free session from 11am-3pm.

Enjoy Curious Adventures in Colour and Light with artist and photographer Graham Fudger who brings ten light-themed activities for you to explore.
In this free, hands-on workshop you can explore principles of colour, light, and the science of seeing.
There are free, hour long sessions from 12-4pm, but places are limited, so book your place online.

In this display of archaeology from The Higgins Bedford collections, you can see and in some cases handle artefacts that tell us about the past.
An archaeology expert will explain where the items were found and their significance in understanding our history.
