Recycle your Real Christmas Tree
It might feel a bit early to be taking the decorations down, but here's a reminder of how you can recycle your real Christmas tree.
If you can’t plant your real Christmas tree in the garden, make sure you drop it off at one of the Christmas tree recycling sites between Monday 30 December and Wednesday 8 January, where they will be taken away for composting. The sites include:
- Hillgrounds Road, Kempston, opposite the shops near Hartwell Drive (What3words: ///cares.each.mixer)
- Jubilee Park, Bedford, opposite North Lodge, Canvin Way (What3words: ///dusty.natively.waving)
- Milton Ernest Garden Centre (What3words: ///guard.storage.digests)
- Mowsbury Park car park, Wentworth Drive, Bedford (What3words: ///gentle.poet.trip) - Please note this location is different from previous years.
- Podington Garden Centre (What3words: ///fuels.processor.youth)
- Roxton Garden Centre (What3words: ///sprouted.flop.defaults)
- Seasons Garden Centre (What3words: ///fast.each.hiking)
- Bedford Household Waste Recycling Centre, Barkers Lane, Bedford (What3words: ///grid.rating.fled)
Please make sure all decorations and containers are removed before you drop your tree off and please don't leave any other rubbish or recycling at these sites.
Remember these locations are for real Christmas trees only. If you used an artificial tree this year, pop it back in the box and you can reuse it again, year after year.
The Sue Ryder charity is also offering a Christmas tree collection service between Thursday 9 and Sunday 12 January in return for an optional donation to the charity.
Volunteers will collect your real Christmas tree from your front garden or driveway and recycle it into wood chippings.
Did you know glass drinks bottles and jars are endlessly recyclable?
Once the wine, fizz, beers or cordial have been drunk and the cranberry sauce jar scraped clean, remember to take them to your local mini recycling site. Pop the bottle tops or jam jar lids back on before you go so these get recycled too!
We have an ongoing glass recycling trial, where some households can recycle glass in the orange lidded recycling bin. Properties which are part of the trial area will have received a sticker on their bin and an information leaflet.
If you have received a leaflet and sticker, please continue to recycle glass bottles and jars in your orange lidded recycling bin.
If you have not received a leaflet/sticker, please continue to take your glass bottles and jars to your local mini recycling site.
