Work underway at Wixams Railway Station

This week the Mayor of Bedford Borough, visited the Wixams railway station site.

Geotechnical surveys are ongoing and a programme for ecology works has commenced, which will involve clearance of vegetation and installation of ecological fencing all in preparation for the construction phase of the project which will begin in late 2023.

Bedford Borough Council recently undertook a non-statutory public engagement on its plans for Wixams railway station and will be submitting applications for planning permission in Summer 2022. You can find out more about the project at https://www.bedford.gov.uk/WixamsStation.

Bedford Borough Council Opens Two Newly Refurbished Play Areas

Mayor Dave Hodgson officially opened two newly refurbished play areas in Bedford Borough, one at Bedford Park and the other at Jubilee Park.

The play areas have recently opened following extensive refurbishment and upgrades as part of the Council’s £500,000 investment in play areas across the Borough this year.

Bedford Park’s exciting new play area is fairy tale themed and includes a toddler and junior zone, alongside a magical enchanted forest area providing creative play. It also has a new sensory picnic area, with accessible benches and sensory play features. It is located on the eastern side of Bedford Park, near to the lake.

The Jubilee Park play area features new play equipment such as a seafaring play unit, see saw, hammock, wheelchair accessible roundabout and trampoline. It has improved accessibility and includes inclusive equipment, so more children can enjoy the new sea themed space.
