Support for Ukraine

Town Bridge

We’ve had lots of questions from local residents about what they can do to support people who have been impacted.

People can donate essential items that will be transported to Ukraine. The most in demand items are batteries, torches/candles, dry sanitary products, thermal clothes, gloves/hats, painkillers & duvets, blankets, sleeping bags and pillows & bedding.

There are lots of organisations who are collecting donations and support. One is the Polish House who are collecting donations via Prices Candles, Hudson Road Bedford MK41 0LZ. They are taking deliveries 9am to 2pm on Saturday, 9am to 3pm on Sunday and 8.30am to 4pm on Monday.

Another option for people wanting to support those impacted by the invasion of Ukraine is to make a financial donation to the Association of Ukrainians in Great Britain, who are collecting to provide essential support, medicine and food to people in Ukraine.
If you’d like to find out more or make a donation, visit their Go Fund Me.

The Charity Commission and Fundraising Regulator have urged the public to ‘give safely’ to registered charities as people make generous donations to causes helping to support and protect people affected by the invasion of Ukraine.

COVID-19 Vaccinations

Getting vaccinated continues to offer the best protection against COVID-19. It reduces the risk of spreading it to others and means you’re less likely to get seriously ill.

The mobile vaccination van will be at Tesco on Cardington Road on Saturday 5 and Sunday 6 March, from 10.30am-5.30pm for first, second or booster jabs. No need to book, just turn up.

We are also asking people to try and stay at home if they are feeling unwell. COVID-19 tests for people with symptoms and those without will continue to be available for free via the Government website until 31 March.

Adults and children who test positive for COVID-19 are still being advised to stay at home and avoid contact with other people to help slow the spread of COVID-19.
