A second vaccination centre opened in Bedford this week at the Guru Nanak Gurdwara Temple in Ford End Road, Bedford. This joins the existing vaccination centre operating at Kings House on Ampthill Road.
The vaccination programme is being carried out by the various parts of the NHS. All GP surgeries in Bedford Borough are working together at the sites to provide the vaccines.
Hear from Local GP Dr Jason Reddy about what the opening of the new vaccine centre means to him.
As well as locally, the NHS has opened 7 mass vaccination centres across the country. The nearest to Bedford is at Robertson House in Stevenage. If you receive an invitation to attend this centre but you do not want to, or cannot, travel to Stevenage don’t worry you will be able to attend an appointment locally through your GP. Please wait to be invited for your vaccination.
The vaccination at this stage is only for those invited. Residents should not contact their GP practice, hospital or other sites to request the vaccine. Residents will be contacted when it’s the right time to come forward.
The government has set out the order in which groups of people will be prioritised and invited for vaccinations.
The top four priority groups are the current priority. If you do not fit into one of these groups, you will not be invited for a vaccination yet. Further detail about the priority groups is available on the Government website.
You can find out more about the vaccine roll-out locally on the BLMK CCG website.
Under the national lockdown restrictions, everyone is asked to stay at home as much as possible.
Among the limited reasons that people are permitted to go out for is to exercise with your household (or support bubble) or one other person (in which case you should stay 2m apart).
Exercise should be limited to once per day, and you should not travel outside your local area.
We are reminding everyone to keep their distance from others when taking their exercise, wash and sanitise their hands regularly- particularly before/after touching any play equipment, and not to gather in groups.
In line with government guidance, outdoor gyms and multi-use game areas are closed. Where possible this will be done with a physical closure and where this cannot be done, signage is in place to make it clear that these facilities are closed.
We are also reminding people not to stop in places where social distancing may be difficult, such as on narrow bridges over the river. Please make sure that the bridge and the exit are clear before crossing.
