With the Government guidance in place especially for those classed in the “increased risk” category of severe illness from Coronavirus (COVID-19), the Council has lost a number of its waste collection staff.

To ensure we can continue to prioritise our teams on essential duties, we have unfortunately had to suspend Green Garden Waste collections from Monday 23 March.

Bulky Waste Collections also have to be suspended, but any which have already been booked up to and including Friday 27 March will be fulfilled.

The Council has also had to suspend the rural skip for bulky waste service (known as ‘Rural Bulky Waste Collections’) until further notice. We would ask that residents do not place any items at the previously advertised locations, as they will not be collected. We will keep residents informed about future rural bulky waste collection dates as soon as we can.

How to store your rubbish

Please see the advice below on how to store your rubbish for anyone with confirmed or possible coronavirus (Covid-19) if you are self-isolating:

Double bag all waste that contains tissues

Do not put it out for collection for at least 72 hours

Double bag: Personal waste (such as used tissues and disposable cleaning cloths) should be stored separately to other waste, put it in a rubbish bag and then put into a second bag or black sack. This should be tied and kept separate from other waste in the room/s in which you are self-isolating.

Keep waste aside for at least 72 hours: Do not put it out for collection for at least 3 days. As an example, if you have filled/tied a bag on a Monday and your collection is due on a Thursday, that bag can be put out for collection on Thursday morning. However, if you have filled/tied a bag on a Monday and your collection is due on a Wednesday, you would need to hold onto that bag until your next scheduled collection day.

Other household waste can be disposed of as normal.
