What to do with all the cardboard packaging?

Giving cardboard boxes

Now that all of your presents are unwrapped - remember to squash down any cardboard packaging before popping it in the orange bin and tear up bigger boxes so you can fit more in!

Make more space in your recycling bin by taking large boxes to the Household Waste Recycling Centre on Barkers Lane, just make sure any polystyrene is taken out first. Check the opening times below.

Wrapping paper - to recycle or not to recycle?

Wrapping paper is often dyed, laminated and/or contains non-paper additives such as gold and silver coloured shapes, glitter, plastics etc which cannot be recycled. This means some types of wrapping paper cannot be recycled. Try the scrunch test to see if yours can be recycled:

  • scrunch the paper in your hand
  • if it stays scrunched you can recycle it in your orange bin
  • if it pops back, please make sure it goes into your black bin

Please remove sellotape, glitter and ribbon from wrapping paper which stays scrunched, before recycling it.

Keep recycling the usual suspects from around the home

Kitchen plastics

Don’t forget to keep recycling the usual suspects over Christmas and into the New Year. From plastic bottles, cans, empty aerosols and cartons they can all go into your orange bin.
