Christmas is nearly upon us and while presents are being bought and wrapped, and the fridge is being filled, here are some handy tips to help make yours a recycle friendly Christmas:
- buying wrapping paper - avoid glittery or foil wrapping paper as these cannot be recycled.
- tear up large cardboard boxes before placing them in the orange lidded bin, to make more room for all your other recycling.
- make a list before you shop for the Christmas table essentials, to avoid overspending on sprouts and having lots of leftovers going to waste. The Love Food Hate Waste portion planner is a great place to find out how much you need to make sure everyone is well fed.
Oh yes it does! Oh no it doesn't! Do you know what can be recycled over Christmas?
- Plain paper, gift wrap and cards .... Oh yes it can!
- Glittery wrapping paper, gift bags and cards ... Oh no they can't! Why not save them to reuse next year.
- Foil or shiny wrapping paper and gift bags ... Oh no they can't!
- Bows and ribbons ... Oh no they can't!
- Plastic or glass baubles ... Oh no they can't!
- Batteries ... Oh yes they can! Please remove them from any toys or games and put them in a small, clear plastic bag. Leave this on top of your black bin lid on your next collection day. Please do not put them into or on top of your recycling bin.
-
Cardboard packaging ... Oh yes it can! Make sure you tear up big boxes to make more space in your recycling bin, and remove any polystyrene or plastic strapping/ties as this cannot be recycled.
- Used foil (for example foil covered in food waste or cooking oil) ... oh no it can't!
-
Plastic bottles and tubs ... Oh yes they can! Please make sure they are empty first.
