With winter approaching, garden waste collections are ending for the season with the last green bin collection on Friday 30th November. Don’t forget to put your green bin out on your collection day over the next couple of weeks. You can check your bin collection day online at www.bedford.gov.uk/bins.

Garden waste collections will be starting up again on 1st March 2019.

Keep an eye out for next year’s bin collection calendar arriving in December, to see the changes to your collections over Christmas and when your first garden waste collection of the spring will be.

If you find you still have lots of fallen leaves once garden waste collections have stopped, composting them at home is a quick and easy option, and will provide leaf mulch to use around the garden. 

Use a black bin liner with holes or wire mesh and wooden stakes, to make a large bin. Fill it with fallen leaves and leave them to mulch down. Once the leaves start to crumble you can spread it as mulch over the garden. 

Some leaves will break down quicker than others and shredding them first will help to speed up to process.
