Latest footfall figures have shown that Bedford town centre is thriving, with a 5.3% increase in town centre footfall in the first six months of this year compares to the same period in 2016.
Footfall has increased every single month this year, compared to last year and we are on track to see footfall increase for the fourth year in a row.
In March 2011, Bedford Borough Council adopted an aspirational target to reduce carbon emissions across Council buildings by 40%.
In 2016/17 we exceeded this target, reducing the carbon footprint across the Council’s estate by 43%!
This huge energy saving is the result of a range of projects and investments across our buildings including the largest energy conservation project ever undertaken by the Council.
Our work and investment in green energy production, including the construction of the River Great Ouse Hydro Power Station, was recognised at the Public Sector Energy and Sustainability Awards 2016, where the Council was announced as National Champion for Sustainability.
