A Walk in the Woods: a Celebration of Trees in British Art Wixamtree Gallery Opening 30th September Free entry This new exhibition from the Cecil Higgins Art Gallery Collection honours the role of woodland in British landscape painting.  See works from the likes of John Constable, John Sell Cotman, Francis Towne and Paul Nash.  The exhibit, generously sponsored by The Friends of The Higgins Bedford, celebrates the 800th anniversary of the Tree Charter, led by the Woodland Trust to recognise, celebrate and promote the protection of trees in the UK. Sankofa: Bedfordshire's Black History Uncovered Connections Gallery Opening 30th September  Free entry Denoted from the Akan tribe in Ghana, the African word "Sankofa" is based on a mythical bird symbolising a quest for knowledge.    This exhibition celebrates 30 years of Black History Month in the UK. There will be a series of events and activities complimenting "Sankofa" such as debates, talks and workshops, including African and Caribbean day and a hair conference.     Click here for more information

BedPop is back with a bigger Fun Palace weekend in various town centre venues including The Higgins Bedford on 7th and 8th October

Fun Palace is a national initiative bringing free workshops to the community on arts, creativity and science.  This is our fourth year and we have attracted thousands of visitors to try something they may not have the opportunity to otherwise.

 World Mental Health Day

The Higgins Bedford, 3pm -6pm

Did you know that one in four of us will experience mental health problems during our lives?

In partnership with Dr Ben Salmons, Break The Stigma Campaign Lead at East London NHS Foundation Trust and local artist, Damon Poulton we are working with people who use mental health services to create a display of art works reflecting their experience of mental health problems.

Come along and see the launch of art and poetry that has been created to break the stigma surrounding mental illness. There will be a tea party, music performances, speakers, creative workshops and more.
