This month, we’re bringing you updates on our up‑and‑coming Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) Programme taking place during the May half‑term, along with the latest news from our Active Communities sessions running across the district.
We’ll also be sharing information on our new Street Sports sessions in Clowne and South Normanton, plus a fantastic moment for the team as our very own Elle Mann met none other than England Women’s Football Head Coach, Sarina Wiegman, celebrating women in sport.
But first...
On Wednesday 8 April, parents and children taking part in Bolsover District Active Schools Network’s (BDASN) Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) Programme enjoyed a fun train adventure from Creswell Heritage and Wellbeing Centre to Poulter Park in Langwith.
The Physical Activity & Sports Development Team supported BDASN by working in partnership with StreetGames, BDC Partnership Team, and East Midlands Railway to deliver a memorable Make, Move, Munch session. Families learned how to prepare a range of healthy snacks, which they then took with them on a combined train‑and‑walk journey.
East Midlands Railway kindly provided free return train travel between Creswell Station and Langwith–Whaley Thorns Station, along with goodie bags for those taking part, helping to make the trip both accessible and enjoyable.
On arrival, Walk Leaders guided the group to a picnic area where participants enjoyed the snacks they had made and explored Poulter Park before returning to Creswell by train.
Feedback from the day was overwhelmingly positive — although some of the children did mention they wished the train journey had been a little longer!

The Physical Activity & Sports Development Team, supported by the Bolsover Community Safety Partnership, is delivering Street Sports sessions on Friday evenings in Clowne and South Normanton.
These sessions are aimed at young people aged 11–17, providing positive activities that help engage participants and divert them away from Anti-Social behaviour. Sessions will offer a mix of sports including football, basketball, and cricket, alongside music and the occasional pizza night to create a welcoming and relaxed environment.
Local services will also attend selected sessions to offer advice and support to young people as and when required.
Sessions take place at:

- Clune Street Skate Park, Clowne — 7:30pm to 8:30pm

We’re incredibly proud of Elle Mann, Activity Leader within our Physical Activity & Sports Development Team, who recently sat down with none other than Sarina Wiegman, Head Coach of the England Women’s National Football Team.
In this inspiring conversation, Elle and Sarina discuss the phenomenal rise of women’s sport across the UK, the power of visibility and the impact growing participation is having in our communities.
Over the past few years, we’ve seen more women and girls than ever getting active, joining teams, stepping into leadership roles and shaping the future of sport. Elle’s interview shines a spotlight on exactly why this progress matters—and how we can keep pushing it forward.
For more information about women’s sport in the district, please email adam.norman@bolsover.gov.uk or call 01246 242571.
Let’s keep celebrating women on and off the pitch—because the momentum is only just beginning.
