Litter

We all see it. And most of us aren't responsible for it.

Litter can be found anywhere and causes damage to the environment as well as being unsightly.

Litter can include any waste such as cigarette ends, chewing gum, cans, bottles, paper, plastic, food and drink containers or wrapping, left over food, and flyers.

Bolsover District Council has a zero tolerance approach to littering and will issue a £150 (reduced to £100 on early payment) fixed penalty notice to anyone witnessed littering.

Even if the person picks up the litter, they will still be issued with a fixed penalty notice if it is clear their intention was to leave it.

Fixed penalty notice fees

Littering - £150 (reduced to £100 if paid within 10 days)

Public space protection order (inc. dog fouling) - £100

Fly tipping - £400 (reduced to £300 if paid within 10 days)

Abandoning a vehicle - £200

Transporting waste without authority - £300

Failure to comply with duty of care (business) - £300

Failure to comply with a domestic waste receptacle (sec 46) - £100

Failure to comply with a business waste receptable (sec 47) - £100

Failure to comply with duty of care (householder) - £200

Breach of a community protection notice - £100

Keep our district clean and tidy

The easiest way to keep our district clean is to not drop litter. However, there are people who do.

Many parish councils and community groups up and down the district have litter picking kits for residents to use.

These kits make it easy to collect rubbish and tidy up your area.

Earlier this year, Bolsover TV went to meet the Langwiths and Shirebrook litter heroes to see the impact they have made.
