A fun-packed weekend that marks the start of the festive season! From illuminated castle walls to festive market stalls, Bolsover will be bursting with festive traders, street entertainment, live music, seasonal food and drink, all culminating in one of the UK's biggest lantern parades.
Bright Winter Nights 1 December, 4:30pm to 8pm Bolsover Castle
An immersive light experience that will take place within the walls of the castle. Light projections, images and sounds from the last three decades will bring the castle walls to life, featuring the stories of local people and their lantern parade experiences.
Bolsover Christmas Market 2 December, 10am to 6pm Bolsover Town Centre
Since 1994, this event has grown into an annual tradition that's bigger and better than ever. With more than 100 craft and gift stalls scattered throughout the town centre, including Cavendish Walk, the Assembly Rooms and, for the first time this year, stall in the Exhibition Hall at Bolsover Castle.
There will be entertainment from local musicians, singers, dance groups and Bolsover Drama Group. The kids will have a blast with fairground rides, helter-skelter, playbus, face painting, rodeo reindeer and a photo op snow globe.
Bolsover Lantern Parade 2 December, 5pm to 7pm
The mesmerising lantern parade has been an annual tradition for 30 years and this year promises to be very special indeed.
With a spectacular Christmas Market in the town before the parade, the festivities culminate with carols sung by Whitwell Community Choir accompanied by Dronfield Genquip Brass Band.
25 November and 9 December, 10am to 11am Hardwick Hall
Get in the festive spirit by building your own winter decorations!
The workshops will guide you through the process using foliage gathered by the Rangers from the Hardwick Estate and how to arrange these to build the perfect wreath.
The session lasts one hour, a toasty breakfast roll and a warming hot drink can be purchased before or after the workshop.

25 November, 12pm and 2pm Creswell Crags
Stone Age Story Time returns for more fantastical adventures through fiction in one of the Creswell Crags Caves! Children aged 5 to 11 will be led on a journey through story and picture books with a Stone Age storyteller.
In the brightly lit, wide Mother Grundy's Parlour there will be stories about mammoths, caves and hunters and an opportunity to enjoy some new and classic books too! This will be a time to sit and listen to stories from the Stone Age - both factual and fantastical! It's a great way to light the spark of imagination for children visiting this amazing place.

2 December, 10am to 11am Hardwick Hall
Visit the Lantern House this festive season to design, decorate and build a paper lantern you can take home. Inspired by the theme of this year's Hardwick Wintertide, take your finished masterpiece on a tour of the mansion as you explore light and shadows on your own creation.
This crafting session is suitable to families with children aged 4-10.

1 December, 10am to 12:30pm Hardwick Hall
Uncover the mystery behind veteran trees on Hardwick's Veteran Tree Walk. From trauma such as lightening strikes to missing limbs, these trees are far from being purposeless.
Guided by expert Rangers, be prepared to learn all about their high ecological importance, how to define a veteran tree, and how Hardwick is creating the next generation of veteran trees.
This enjoyable and educational walk will take approximately 2 to 2 and a half hours and is 3.5 to 4 miles in distance.

26 November, 12pm Creswell Events Centre
Join Crags Radio for a Christmas Extravaganza.
Two stages of entertainment are on offer with performances from Courtney Watkinson's School of Dance, Whitwell Community Choir, Kasia Miskwiec Smith and Millie May. There will also be a magic show, game show, crimbo bingo, Santa parade, kids disco and a special appearance from The Grinch. This will all be concluded with the traditional Christmas lights switch on.
