The first phase of our Shirebrook Market Place: REimagined project is about to start on site, with new attractive memorial gardens being created to complement the recently installed Mining Memorial.
The first part of this work saw the local community come together and fund the impressive Shirebrook Mining Memorial that was unveiled in April 2023.
To provide an appropriate setting for this memorial and to support the vitality and viability of the District’s town centres, we have paid for detailed design work from Lathams Architects to create attractive memorial gardens to flank the memorial.
In addition to further improving the design quality of the town centre, these memorial gardens are intended to provide a contemplative space for people visiting the memorial and also a pleasant spot for workers and shoppers to take their lunch.

The ban on XL Bully dogs is being introduced in stages. The first thing to know is that you should STOP any plans you may have for breeding from an XL Bully, as by the time the puppies are born it will be illegal to sell the puppies (or even give them away).
31 December 2023 is the date when Section 1 of the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 is officially amended. It will then be a criminal offence to:
- Breed or breed from the dog
- Sell or exchange the dog
- Give the dog away
- Allow the dog to be in a public place without being muzzled and kept on a lead
- Abandon the dog or allow it to stray

There is still time to get involved with the Clowne Half Marathon.
You can still enter the race if you want the challenge of an undulating 13.1 mile course with a mixture of roads, trails, track and fell.
If running isn't for you there is plenty of places along the route to support the runners. The race starts at The Arc in Clowne and winds its way through neighbouring villages before ending at Clowne Community Centre.
If you need a little incentive, all finishers get a hoodie.

Thirteen community groups have benefitted from our Community Lottery Scheme.
The organisations ranging from drama groups to breakfast clubs and sports teams to older people’s organisations all received a cheque for £250 to help them with running costs, organise outings or purchase equipment.
The money has been raised throughout the year from ticket sales and any group that is registered as a good cause with the lottery scheme can automatically apply for a small grant worth £250 from the ‘Central Fund’.

Over the past five-years, Hayden Hudson from Bolsover has raised £10,000 pounds for numerous charities in the area - and he wants to keep going.
When he was eight-year-old, Hayden asked his mum to see if he could raise some money for a local charity, his mum agreed, encouraged him and was rightly proud.
Fast forward five years and Hayden Hudson is a fundraising machine as he has helped charities such as the McMillan unit at Chesterfield, Nightingale children's ward, CLAPA, SANDS, Bluebell Wood, Diabetes UK and Bolsover food bank...and the list goes on!
