Dive into our mysterious underwater world with The Wildlife Trusts' annual celebration of all things marine!
We owe so much to our seas. Our marine areas are key to tackling climate change and have also had an enormous cultural impact on society. Our rocky coastlines, sandy beaches and sublime seas are wonderful places to explore. It's no surprise that throughout history this fascinating habitat has inspired many a storyteller, artist and poet, making our lives all the richer.
You may have spotted that National Marine Week actually lasts longer than a week. This is so we can make the most of the different tide times around the country.
This year, the focus is on the unsung heroes of the marine world. These are species you might not have known we get in the UK, some you might not have ever heard of before.
If you'd like to delve even deeper there are lots more ways for you to get involved in National Marine Week. From FIN-tastic events to ways you can KELP marine wildlife at home.

The maintenance of grass verges can cause concern for some residents. We wanted to provide some detail into how we deal with grass verge maintenance in order to put people’s minds at ease.
We maintain grass verges in the district between mid-March and mid-October at around 17-day intervals throughout the season.
We do this to prevent grass/vegetation height obscuring highway visibility and undermining safety. Keeping the verges maintained also prevents seeds from damaging road surfaces and drainage systems.
We keep verges in rural areas (50 to 60mph roads) cut to a one meter width to maintain driver visibility and to ensure safety on the roads. If protected flora is identified in one of these areas, we work in partnership with Derbyshire Wildlife Trust to help support diversity and wildlife habits.
