On 10 November 2022, our officers were on a routine patrol of Hawking Lane in Stainsby when they came across black bags of rubbish in a layby along the road.
The bags contained correspondence relating to a vehicle repair bodyshop in Sheffield.
After an investigation by the officer, the business owner paid the £300 fixed penalty notice to discharge liability for failing to comply with their duty to retain waste documentation.

Residents in and around Shirebrook are urged to be aware of a waste collector, collecting waste and then dumping it illegally.
We are investigating several fly tipping incidents in the Shirebrook area involving a red flatbed truck, used by someone who has been collecting scrap and waste in the area and offering to remove.
An incident was investigated recently where waste was dumped on Wood Lane outside Shirebrook and was linked to this perpetrator. The waste was traced back to its original owner who has had to pay a £200 fixed penalty notice for failing in their household duty of care to ensure they took reasonable checks that the person they passed the waste to, was a licensed waste carrier.

Bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK and affects 1 in every 15 males and 1 in every 18 females. The disease is treatable and curable, especially if diagnosed early. If diagnosed at the earliest stage the disease has a 90% survival rate.
Derbyshire Voluntary Action have launched a project that has a community approach to improving cancer survival, creating a network of cancer champions who help to remove barriers and normalise conversations about cancer. This in turn can lead to more people attending their screening or contacting their GP if there are concerned.

Garden lovers are in for a real treat this weekend as a Pinxton woman is opening up her garden to help raise money for some of UK’s best-loved nursing and health charities.
Rosemary has developed the 'Plantwomens garden' over 25 years to include collections of hardy geraniums, agaves, ferns, persicaria and grasses. The garden has a quirky mix of salvage items and a wildflower lawn is a work in progress. A small rockery, upcycled garden room, mixed borders and a large patio with pot displays are also available to view.
