This awareness day is all about bringing attention to the issue of plastic in our seas and oceans.
To get involved:
- Wear blue to show your support
- Get involved in community clean-up events (this can include rivers or lakes if you aren't able to get to the coast)
- Be involved in ocean-themed education activities and programmes
- Make a pledge to reduce the plastic in your life and inspire others to do the same
Cigarette butts account for 66% of all litter and can be found in every corner of the country.
New research for Keep Britain Tidy has revealed that there are 2.4 million cigarette butts on England's high streets, despite the efforts of local authorities to clean them up on a daily basis.
A core reason for this is that many smokers incorrectly believe that cigarette butts are biodegradable. They are not.
A cigarette butt takes 14 years to break apart, its toxins seeping into the earth.
The only way to stop the issue it to stop dropping cigarettes.

Try flexitarian eating!
If you are wanting to change your diet to a more environmentally friendly one without giving up your favourite foods, try a flexitarian approach.
This diet is focused on plant-based foods but with an allowance for occasional meat and dairy to be included. This means you can drastically reduce the animal products in your diet without giving up those old favourites.
