A cheque for £1,000 has been presented to Peter Bower, Divisional Secretary SSAFA Bolsover Division by Mrs Norah Sly on behalf of the family of the late Tony Parker.

Tony served in the armed forces and became, supported by his wife Halyna, a well-respected and dedicated caseworker for the Bolsover Division, helping many people who were in dire straits.

Peter thanked Tony's family for their generous donation and informed them that the money would be placed in an emergency fund designed to give immediate, urgently needed support to people in Bolsover District.

A new initiative to see more plastic recycled in Bolsover District has got underway to help residents recycle more than ever.

We are asking residents to start recycling flexible plastics along with their regular burgundy bin recycling. The move comes years ahead of the government making the recycling of such plastics mandatory.

Flexible plastics include carrier bags, bubble wrap, confectionery wrappers and the film tops that come on products such as grape and strawberry punnets.
