The Ladywood Estate Regeneration Newsletter
We are delighted to issue this newsletter, which aims to bring all residents, community groups, businesses, schools and stakeholders living and working in Ladywood up to date with the progress of the project.
The Ladywood regeneration plans are making good progress but remain at a very early stage. A planning application has not been submitted. A full and detailed community consultation process on a developed masterplan will be completed before a planning application is submitted. The masterplan will be developed with the community of Ladywood and will outline how the neighourhood will be transformed over the next 15-20 years.
Between now and January 2024, a community charter will be developed, which is the focus of this newsletter.
What is a community charter? Why are we developing one for Ladywood?
Between now and January 2024, we are working to develop a community charter. This written document will set out:
-
sets out how we will consult with residents, businesses and all key stakeholders on the regeneration of Ladywood.
-
identifies the most important issues for residents and their ideas and aspirations for the future of this important neighbourhood.
-
outlines he main opportunities arising from the regeneration project and the concerns of residents of all ages.
-
ensures we fully understanding how you want to be involved and communicated with
To help draw up this community charter, the council has held 12 community consultation workshops with local residents, businesses and stakeholders in October and November 2023. These have been well attended with over 300 people attending the 12 sessions.
We will provide a summary in this newsletter of what we have been told at a later date.
Thank you to everyone who gave up their valuable time to attend the workshops and provide their comments. Every comment is being carefully considered and taken into account as the Community Charter is drafted.
If you were unable to attend one of the workshops, there is still plenty of opportunity for you to have your say.
A survey will be available for all Ladywood residents in December 2023 and the New Year. Your answers in this will also be taken in consideration to draw up the community charter.
Ladywood big pre-Christmas clear up – week commencing December 11 2023
Plans are being put in place for a Big Festive Clean Up in Ladywood prior to the Christmas holiday’s to ensure that the neighbourhood is looking as good as possible for the festive season.
Scheduled throughout the week of December 11th 2023, this will involve cleaning up and clearing as many of the overgrown or rubbish strewn areas as possible and generally tidying up the area in front of the shops on St Vincent Street West and any fly tipping hotspots. We are also working to remove as much graffiti as possible.
We will be asking members of the community and local businesses to all help with the clean up and we have already received a number of volunteers.
If you are interested in getting involve in the big pre-Christmas clear up, please contact ladywoodregeneration@birmingham.gov.uk.
What is Reset, Reshape, Restart?
Birmingham City Council has severe financial challenges which it must face and difficult decisions need to be taken. The council needs to Reset, Reshape and Restart.
A programme of improvement and change has now commenced. The first phase of this is to reset the council finances, as well as our services and how they are delivered.
We will then need to reshape our services. To do this, we will need your help. We want to hear your views about our services, what matters to you, and decide what we will have to change.
We will then put these decisions into action, to restart the council, putting the council on a footing that will benefit the city and its citizens for the long term.
To find out the latest council news including our Budget for 2024/25 and future financial proposals, make sure you sign up to receive the Birmingham Bulletin.
