The Clean Air Zone
Despite the announcement that the Clean Air Zone has been postponed due to COVID-19, a lot of work is still taking place in preparation for a launch in 2021, with the extra time being used to speed up the delivery of schemes to support alternative travel options.
Emergency Birmingham Transport Plan
The Emergency Birmingham Transport Plan, sets out plans for a wide range of emergency measures to support walking, cycling and public transport throughout the city, in light of the impact of COVID-19.
Meeting the demand for Workplace Travel Plans
On Wednesday, 20 May, join our Travel Demand Management Team for a webinar on Workplace Travel Plans; what are they? And why now?
The webinar will look at why now is a good time to create a Travel Plan, highlighting some of the measures you can put in place to support staff working at home or returning to the workplace and what the Council is doing to enable a low-carbon recovery from lockdown. Following the webinar, we will support businesses and organisations in creating a travel plan using the online platform, Modeshift STARS.
Coming soon: the Heavy Duty Vehicle Fund (HDV)
A £10.05 million Heavy Duty Vehicle (HDV) Fund will soon be available to support SMEs to help them meet the required Euro Standards for commercial vehicles.
Funding will be capped and subject to eligibility and will be administered in accordance with De minimis State Aid Regulations. More information is available on the website.

Scrappage scheme update
We have now gone out to tender for a scrappage scheme provider(s) who will support people working in the Clean Air Zone who want to upgrade from a polluting vehicle to a compliant vehicle. To be eligible for the scrappage scheme you should meet all of the below criteria:

Have been the registered owner/ keeper of a non-compliant vehicle since before 10 September 2018

Work at least 21 hours a week at a registered place of employment within the Clean Air Zone

Earn less than £30,000 a year
The scrappage scheme will enable eligible workers to scrap their non-compliant vehicle through the nominated provider(s) and receive £2,000 towards a compliant vehicle from a nominated dealership(s) or £2,000 towards a public transport Swift Card.
