Sustainable transport

 

A new draft strategy designed to manage parking in Birmingham in order to create a more efficient and sustainable transport network is set to go out to public consultation.


The Birmingham Food Conversation has been launched by Henry Dimbleby, the co-founder of food chain Leon. The conversation is part of an independent review to develop a National Food Strategy, which looks at the entire food chain ‘from field to fork’.


Plans for a £25 million regeneration of Birmingham’s city centre – which include bringing Victoria Square’s famous ‘Floozie in the Jacuzzi’ fountain back into use – have been revealed.


An injunction banning street cruising from the roads of Birmingham has been extended for another three years following a successful application to the courts by the city council.

‘Tis the season! Find out more about Christmas in Birmingham, including the Frankfurt Christmas Market, big wheel and ice rink, and other festive events.


The Birmingham Film Festival is on from 1-10 November, with a showing of the council’s 'Homelessness in Birmingham' film at Millennium Point, on Saturday 2 November, at 2pm.


Birmingham’s Edgbaston Stadium hosts its family-friendly Fireworks Spectacular on Saturday 2 November, from 5.30pm.


Birmingham’s annual Remembrance Day Service will take place on Colmore Row, opposite St Philip’s Cathedral, on Sunday 10 November, attended by military veterans and Armed Forces representatives.


SHOUT Festival of Queer Arts and Culture is Birmingham’s annual celebration of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer (LGBTQ+) performance, film, and visual arts. It’s on in the city, from 5-17 November.


Celebrate Christmas at the Jewellery Quarter Lights Switch On, from 5-7pm, on Friday 15 November, with free music, street food, plenty of mulled wine and a fantastic fireworks display.


The Vitality Roses – England’s national women’s netball team – face newly-crowned World Champions New Zealand, Jamaica and South Africa across four days of action, as they battle to be crowned Vitality Netball Nations Cup Champions. Arena Birmingham plays host to the second match day of the series, on Wednesday 22 January, from 5.30pm, with Jamaica facing New Zealand and England facing South Africa.
