Welcome to Birmingham Bulletin with news and what's on from Birmingham City Council. This is our last email bulletin before Christmas. On behalf of everyone here at the city council, we would like to wish all of you a very merry Christmas.

News

Clean Air Zone

 

The council has published its final proposals for a Clean Air Zone to help tackle the problem of air pollution in the city. The full business case was approved at the city council's Cabinet and will be submitted to the government.


Motorists are being advised that average speed cameras have been installed along a stretch of the A4540 Middleway corridor, from Five Ways to Haden Circus in the city centre.


The number of new homes built in Birmingham over the last three years has exceeded the annual targets by 108%, showing that confidence in the housing market in the city is continuing to improve.


Young people from schools across Birmingham have taken part in this year’s national Make Your Mark campaign. With 12,713 votes cast in the city, the most important issue for young people was putting an end to knife crime.


Budget Consultation 2019+ 
Our plans for allocating the total budget we have to spend on services for 2019/20 are being consulted on until 31 December 2018. Have your say.

Birmingham City Council’s Cabinet will be discussing the budget during a live webcast on Thursday 20 December 6pm - 7pm. To submit a question for the webcast, please email us here. On the day, you’ll be able to view the webcast here

Frankfurt Market

 

Make the most of the Frankfurt Christmas Market, which closes on 23 December; Christmas at the Cathedral, until 22 December; and big wheel and ice rink until 6 January (except Christmas Day). More Christmas events are on our dedicated events pages. There are more festive things to do on the Visit Birmingham website.


Have a magical time visiting Santa’s Grotto at Birmingham Wildlife Conservation Park on 15,16, 22 and 23 December. Children can enjoy Christmas music and activities. If you would like to buy a toy for your child/children they are priced at £2.50 each.


Don’t miss out on the Voices of the First World War Exhibition, at the Library of Birmingham, until 5 January.


The Wizard of Oz, on at Birmingham Rep until 13 January, shows there’s no place like home.
