Children from schools across Birmingham came together at The Birmingham Repertory Theatre to celebrate their knowledge of children’s rights.


Birmingham City Council is set to install average speed enforcement cameras along a stretch of road where six people lost their lives last year.


Work on Dartmouth Circus to ensure it meets modern standards is scheduled to run until 3 September. The council, Transport for West Midlands, and Highways England, are working in partnership to co-ordinate schemes and minimise disruption.    


A public consultation on a new Community Cohesion Strategy, which sets out proposals for making Birmingham a fair and inclusive city for people from different backgrounds and communities to live, is now open. 


Green-fingered council tenants and leaseholders are being called upon to take part in the council’s annual Birmingham in Bloom competition, which celebrates the best of gardening and community spirit.  


A plan to to help young people with additional needs into adulthood has been approved by the council's Cabinet.  


The Prime Minister has appointed John Crabtree OBE as the Chair of the 2022 Commonwealth Games Organising Committee.

MULLER GP


Athletes from across the world will be at Birmingham’s Alexander Stadium on 18 August at the Müller Grand Prix Birmingham. Taking place shortly after the European Championships, it’ll be a chance to welcome home Britain’s medallists and see global stars of athletics compete. Tickets start at £10 for juniors and £20 for adults.


The Birmingham, Solihull & Sandwell Jazz Festival, from 20-29 July, has more than 200 performances over 10 days. Almost all of the shows have free admission.


The Celebrating Sanctuary Community Concert, on 20 July at St John's and St. Peter's Church, Ladywood, from 7-9pm, will showcase resident artists including musician, composer, author and teacher Chartwell Shorayi Dutiro.


There’s theatre, dance, music, comedy, poetry, cabaret, rehearsed readings, workshops and seminars at Birmingham Fest until 28 July.


Brindleyplace Film Fest, from 16-22 July, is a week-long open air showcase of a variety of films, all for free. The festival will be held in conjunction with the Royal Society for Blind Children.  


Symphony Hall Inside Out, a free festival that celebrates Birmingham's culture, is at the world famous venue on 20 and 21 July.


The Jewellery Quarter Festival, from 20-22 July, is a showcase of the very best of the area, bringing together residents and businesses.


Ratha Yatra Festival, on 22 July, from 11am to 6pm, is a daylong festival in the city centre, featuring a procession, dance, music and drama.


Birchfield Jazz Festival, on 27 and 28 July, is a celebratory event of free live music in partnership with Birchfield Big Local and hosted by St Mary’s Church in Handsworth.


Made Festival, on 28 July, is a celebration of arts, music and culture in Perry Park.  


Shardfest, on 28 and 29 July, in Norman Chamberlain fields, Shard End, is a nationally and internationally acclaimed festival now in its fifth year.


Nowka Bais, starting from 10am on 29 July, is a Bangladeshi cultural event including a fun fair, Bangladeshi street food, boat racing and more.


At The Ikon Gallery Summer School, from 6-10 August, children will work with professionals to perform, produce and present their own films (£100 per child). The Ikon also has free Family Saturdays on 14 July, 11 August, from 12-4pm.
