The Birmingham Independent Improvement Panel, which has been monitoring the council’s progress, has advised that it should now ‘suspend operations’, due to the council’s good prospects for improvement. Read the council’s response to the news.


The council’s Cabinet has approved a raft of measures to address the housing shortage in Birmingham with three specialist housing reports.


Birmingham City Council and West Midlands Police have launched a Rough Sleepers Task Force, bringing key organisations together to address city centre rough sleeping.


Private hire firms in Birmingham could be rated in a similar way to food businesses if a new ratings scheme is approved, subject to consultation.

Custard Factory


Get set to enjoy a day full of live music, classic vinyl records, scrumptious street food and family fun at the Custard Factory’s Summer Jam on 12 August.


The Botanical Gardens 2017 outdoor theatre season draw to a close with a new adaptation of Pride and Prejudice on 16 August. Feel free to bring along a picnic!

The Müller Grand Prix Birmingham will be one of the highlights of the athletics season, as we welcome the stars of the World Championship, including Sir Mo Farah, to the Alexander Stadium on Sunday 20 August.
