Flood Action Week took place between 12 to 18 October. The campaign aims to raise people's awareness of flood risk and preparedness, to keep homes and business as safe as possible before a flood event, and whilst flooding is occurring.
Here are some key points to get you started:
Helpful Alerts and Warnings
Sign up for flood alerts - You’ll receive a call, text, or email if flooding is expected near your property.
Sign up to receive severe weather warnings from the Met Office, to stay ahead of changing weather conditions
Flood Plan
Create a flood plan.
A flood plan helps you:
- Know what to do if a flood warning is issued
- Protect important items and documents
- Plan how to turn off gas, water, and electricity safely
- Identify where you’ll move vehicles or valuables
- Keep a contact list of emergency numbers and insurance details
Preparing in advance can make all the difference when every minute counts.
Flood Stores
Be aware of the network of Flood Stores across the district.
These stores provide essential equipment and resources to help residents and community groups prepare for and respond to flooding.
Knowing where your nearest flood store is and what’s available can make a real difference during an emergency.
If you need to access a Community Resilience Store, contact Nottinghamshire County Council on: 0300 500 80 80 80 (Monday to Friday – 8am to 8pm, Saturday – 8am to 12noon).
Or on 01253 502 776 outside of these hours.
To access the Bassetlaw District Council Flood Stores in Worksop and Retford, call 01909 533 533 (Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm) or 07823 789 403 (outside of these hours).
