The Tenant Champion Awards are back!
We’re on the lookout for tenants who have made a real difference to people in their community and deserve recognition for the work they do.
Whether it’s helping out with the gardening, putting the bins out, or speaking up for others at tenant meetings, we want to make sure these thoughtful efforts don’t go unnoticed.
It’s people like this who help make our communities better, and we think they deserve a big thank you.
If there’s someone you know who has done something to help you or your community, you can nominate them for a Tenant Champion Award.
To nominate, email tenant.engagement@bassetlaw.gov.uk with your nomination and a brief summary saying why you think they should be recognised. Alternatively, send us a letter by post to:
FAO: Tenant and Resident Engagement Queen’s Buildings Potter Street Worksop S80 2AH
Previous winners have been recognised for their contributions such as organising local fundraising and community events to combat social isolation, volunteering their time to support others, and helping ensure our most vulnerable residents feel included and connected.
Awards will be presented at the Tenant Conference on Monday 24th November taking place at The Crossing in Worksop.
Submissions close Wednesday, 19th November 2025.

Tenant Meeting
The Tenant and Resident Engagement team are continuing to hold meetings for tenants in different areas of the district. This month we will be at Cleveland Close Community Centre, Cleveland Close, Carlton-in-Lindrick, S81 9BG, where we will be sharing some key updates about what’s going on in Housing and give you the opportunity to talk to us about your tenancies and community. We will also be having a guest speaker to come talk to us about The Oasis Centre and provide information about Talking Therapies.
If you live in or around the Carlton area, this is your opportunity to come speak to us about the things that matter to you. Please come and join us for a hot drink and a biscuit on Friday 31st October, 10.30am until 12noon.

We’re looking for engaged, enthusiastic, and curious tenants and leaseholders to join our Scrutiny Panel.
You will take the lead, looking closely at how our services work, identifying where improvements can be made, and working alongside us to make them happen.
Tenant Scrutiny is about working in partnership with the Council to examine how services are performing, recommend changes that make a real impact and deliver better outcomes for all tenants.
If you are passionate about improving housing services in Bassetlaw and want to make a difference in your community – we’d love to have you on board!
No experience? No problem! We’ll provide full training, support and guidance.
What’s in it for you?
- Make your voice heard
- Meet like-minded people
- Learn new skills and boost your confidence
- Help shape the future of housing services in Bassetlaw
For those who are unable or prefer not to attend meetings, you can still get involved through the Be Heard from Home surveys.

Tenant Forum keeps tenants informed
The Tenant Forum, held on Wednesday 24th September, provided a great way for tenants to ask questions and find out about different things going on in the world of Housing.
Updates included a talk on the upcoming changes with Awaab’s Law, the Council’s performance measures and looking at the different ways tenants are getting involved with our service.
We very much enjoyed seeing everyone at the Forum and we look forward to the Tenant Conference, which will be held at The Crossing in Worksop on Monday 24th November 2025.

Tenant Portal
As you will be aware, the Tenant Portal was launched earlier this year, which has given tenants another way to book repairs and enables you to track what’s happening with a repair and update your contact details.
Now that tenants have the opportunity to access the Portal, we are looking to get some feedback to understand how you are finding the system and if there’s anything we can do to make it more accessible.
If you are interested in being involved, either in person or from home, please email the Tenant and Resident Engagement team on tenant.engagement@bassetlaw.gov.uk with your name and how you would like to be involved.

Healthy Neighbourhood Inspections help us to find things such as graffiti, overgrown gardens, and resolving issues within the community.
Each area has at least one inspection per year, and they are carried out by your Housing Officers. People from other Council departments, Councillors, Nottinghamshire Police and other agencies may also attend and help resolve issues.
We want tenants to be part of these inspections, even if it is just for your street or to raise an individual issue, after all it is your estate, and nobody knows it better than you.
Please join us at one of the inspections that take place over the next month:

The Stop Social Housing Stigma campaign was set up in 2017 to unite tenants, landlords, contractors and others. Social housing stigma i.e. that tenants sometimes feel that they are treated as second class citizens by their landlords, by politicians and by the public - was the issue that was most raised in the post Grenfell Ministerial tenant roadshows.
The campaign is tenant-led but also brings everyone together to tackle social housing stigma, particularly working in partnership with landlords who support the aims of the campaign to tackle social housing stigma.
To find out more about what Stop Social Housing Stigma are doing and how you could get involved, please join one of these online events:
Thursday 16th October 6pm
Thursday 23rd October 10.30am
- Hosted by LiveWest
- Please register and join on Zoom.
To find out more and keep up to date please have a look on the Stop Social Housing Stigma website.
