Bassetlaw to Mark 80th Anniversary of Victory over Japan Day
Residents are invited to join the Worksop and Retford branches of the Royal British Legion, who will commemorate the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan (VJ) Day with two events taking place on Friday 15 August.
These events will honour the official end of the Second World War and recognise the courage, endurance and sacrifice of those who served in the Far East and their loved ones.

National Allotment Week is returning to Bassetlaw this August, highlighting the vital role allotments play in supporting healthier lifestyles and community wellbeing.
Running from Monday 11th to Sunday 17th August, this year’s theme, ‘Allotments and Wellbeing’, focuses on the many benefits of growing your own food and spending time outdoors for both physical and mental health.

Panto in the Park 2025
Talegate Theatre are delivering a summer of slapstick, silliness and songs through a series of outdoor pantomimes!
There's still two more shows to enjoy this month:
The Frog Prince: 18th August at 2pm Beauty and the Beast: 29th August at 2pm
Location: Kings' Park, Retford.
All Panto in the Park shows are free to attend and last approximately 50 minutes. There's no need to book, but feel free to bring some chairs, a blanket or even a picnic!

Extreme Wheels events are taking place at The Canch in Worksop every Tuesday for the summer holidays!

Sessions will include one of the following:
- Skatepark
- Laser Tag
- Body Zorbing
- Drift Trikes
- KMX Karts
- BMX Sidehacks
These sessions are free and no booking is needed, just turn up and join the action!
Minimum age 9+ for Extreme Wheels activities only. Helmets must be worn at all times.

The UK government is testing the Emergency Alerts system on Sunday 7 September 2025 at 3pm. Compatible mobile phones and tablets will receive an alert, make a loud siren-like sound and vibrate. You will not need to take any action.
The Emergency Alerts system is used to warn if there’s a danger to life nearby, including extreme weather. Regular testing ensures the system is functioning correctly, should it need to be used in a life-threatening emergency.
