If you would like to vote by post in these elections, you can now apply to vote by post online and this application must be submitted by 5pm on Monday 14 April 2025 if it is to be effective for these elections. You will need your National Insurance number to hand when applying to vote by post.
If you are unable to apply online, a paper application form is available from the Electoral Commission’s website. This paper application form should be completed and returned to us by 5pm on Monday 14 April 2025 if it is to be effective for these elections. This form must not be completed with an electronic signature. You can complete and return this form to us by post or scan the completed form and email to: elections@bassetlaw.gov.uk. If you cannot print a form, please contact us.
If you are granted a postal vote, you will not be able to vote in person at this election.
Postal and postal-proxy ballot papers will be posted out around: -
- 15th April 2025 if you already have a postal vote or we received your completed application by Monday 31st March 2025.
- 17th April 2025 if we receive the completed application between Tuesday 1st April 2025 and 5pm on Monday 14th April 2025.
Return your completed postal vote as soon as possible by taking it to a post box yourself.
If you can't post it yourself, you can either ask someone you know and trust to post it for you, hand it in to an authorised person at the council offices or hand it in at your polling station on 1st May.
Do not ask a candidate or party worker to post it for you. It is an offence for campaigners, candidates and party workers to handle the postal votes of anyone who is not a close relative or someone they provide care for.
Your postal vote needs to be with our elections team by 10pm on polling day to be counted.
If you can't post your postal vote in time, you can take it your polling station. You can also hand it in to an authorised person at the council offices in Worksop and Retford.
When handing in postal votes, you will need to complete a form. You will need to include your name and address, how many postal votes you are handing in and why you are handing in those postal votes.
Campaigners can only hand in their own postal vote, and postal votes for up to five other people that are either close relatives, or someone they provide regular care for.
Please do not post your postal vote through the letter boxes at the council offices. Doing so will cause your postal vote to be rejected.
