Dog owners who fail to clean up will be targeted
Bassetlaw District Council will continue to target irresponsible dog owners who fail to clean up after their pets, after councillors agreed to a renewal of the district wide Public Spaces Protection (Dog Control) Orders.
Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPO) last a maximum of three years and the Council recently sought the public’s views on whether the orders should continue for a further three-year period.
Cllr Darrell Pulk, Cabinet Member for Environment and Energy said: “For nearly a decade, the Council has been able to use these powers to make it clear what the Council, residents, and the law expects of responsible dog owners when exercising their pet.
“There has been overwhelming support for the extension of the Council’s Dog Control Order which sees careless dog owners caught and held accountable for their pets, for the benefit of those living in and visiting Bassetlaw.”

Bassetlaw District Council will soon begin its Annual Canvass for 2024 and is urging residents to check their electoral registration details to avoid the risk of losing their chance to vote on decisions that affect them.
The Council will begin contacting residents around 12 August 2024. You may receive a text, email (from elections@bassetlaw.gov.uk), or letter. If you are contacted, you should check that the details on the register for your household are correct and provide updated information if necessary. Recent home movers in particular are urged to check their details as they are less likely to be registered than those who have lived at the same address for a long time.

Have your say on a new political map for Bassetlaw District Council
New boundaries are being proposed for council wards in Bassetlaw District Council.
The Local Government Boundary Commission wants to hear what residents and local organisations think about the proposals. A ten-week consultation on the proposals will run until 7 October 2024.
The Commission is the independent body that draws these boundaries. It is reviewing Bassetlaw to make sure councillors will represent about the same number of electors, and that ward arrangements will help the council work effectively.
The Commission has published proposals for changes to Bassetlaw. It is proposing that there should be 48 Councillors, the same as now, representing 8 three-councillor wards, 6 two-councillor wards and 12 single-councillor wards, for a total of 26 wards. 24 of the current wards will change, one will stay the same and another will be newly created.
