Voter ID

You need to show photo identification (ID) to vote at a polling station for an MP in the UK Parliament general election on 4 July.

Which forms of ID can I use to vote?

You may already have a form of photo ID that is acceptable. You can use any of the following:

• Passport
• Driving licence (including provisional license)
• Blue badge
• Certain concessionary travel cards
• Identity card with PASS mark (Proof of Age Standards Scheme)
• Biometric Immigration document
• Defence identity card
• Certain national identity cards

You will only need to show one form of photo ID, but it needs to be the original version and not a photocopy. The name on your ID must be the same name you used to register to vote.

Postal Vote Information

Postal votes for the Bassetlaw Constituency and Bassetlaw wards of the Newark Constituency were despatched on the following dates:

12 June if you are an overseas elector or 19 June if you live in the UK and were already a postal voter before 22 May, or are a new applicant with an application processed by 4 June.

24 June if you live in the UK and are a new postal vote applicant with an application processed by Wednesday 19 June.

If you haven’t received your postal vote pack, you can apply for a replacement up until 5pm on polling day, this Thursday. To do this please call us on 01909 533 252.

Before we can give you a replacement postal vote pack, we will ask for proof of identity. For example a passport, driving licence, buss pass.

For replacement requests made before 5pm on Wednesday 3 July, these can be delivered or collected from Queen’s Buildings, Potter Street, Worksop, S80 2AH.

By law, any replacement requests made between 5pm on Wednesday 3 July and 5pm on Thursday 4 July must be made in person with accepted proof of identity. We will then issue your postal vote pack to you in person and you can return it straight away.

Handing in postal votes on or before polling day

To return a postal vote pack by hand:

• You can return it to the address printed on your pack up until 5pm on 4 July.
• You can also return it to a polling station in the same constituency.

When you return a postal vote pack by hand, you must fill in a form for the pack to be accepted.

An individual can return their own postal vote and up to five additional postal votes at this election from family, friends or neighbours.

Candidates and campaigners are not allowed to collect or return postal votes on electors’ behalf.

Please do not post any postal votes through the letterboxes at any of the Council offices as they will be rejected. 

Find your Polling Station

Your poll card will have information about voting and will tell you the address of your polling station. Make sure you check the details as your polling station may have changed since the last time you voted. You can also find your polling station by using our online postcode finder. On Thursday 4 July 2024, polling stations will be open from 7am until 10pm. Remember to bring your photo ID with you. When you arrive, staff will ask for your name and address, check the electoral register and your photo ID, and, if accepted, issue you with a ballot paper. If you live in the Rampton ward, you will also recieve an additional yellow ballot paper for the District Council by-election.
