Registering to vote
To vote in the UK Parliamentary General Election or the Rampton By-election, you must be registered to vote. If you are not registered to vote, have recently moved address, changed your name or turned 18, you can apply to register online.
Applications should be made online by Tuesday 18 June 2024 to register for this election. If you cannot register online, please contact elections@bassetlaw.gov.uk.
If you are already registered correctly, you do not need to register again for these elections.

Voter ID
Voters in England now need to show photo ID to vote at polling stations in some elections.
This applies to:
UK parliamentary elections, including General Elections, By-elections and recall petitions;
Local elections and By-elections;
Police and Crime Commissioner elections.
Check which forms of ID are accepted.
The deadline to apply for a Voter Authority Certificate to vote in the Parliamentary General Election and Rampton By-election on Thursday 4 July is 5pm on Wednesday 26 June.

Postal voting
If you would like to vote by post in the General Election or Rampton By-election, you can now apply to vote by post online and this application must be submitted by 5pm on Wednesday 19 June 2024 if it is to be effective for these elections. You will need your National Insurance number to hand when applying to vote by post.
If you are unable to apply online, a paper application form is available from the Electoral Commission’s website at www.electoralcommission.org.uk/i-am-a/voter. This paper application form should be completed and returned to us by 5pm on Wednesday 19 June 2024 if it is to be effective for these elections. This form must not be completed with an electronic signature. You can complete and return this form to us by post or scan the completed form and email to: elections@bassetlaw.gov.uk If you cannot print a form, please contact us.
If you are granted a postal vote, you will not be able to vote in person at this election.
Postal and postal-proxy ballot papers will be posted out around: -
- Wednesday 19 June 2024 if we receive the completed application by Tuesday 4 June 2024.
- Monday 24 June 2024 if we receive the completed application between Wednesday 5 June 2024 and 5pm on Wednesday 19 June 2024.
Proxy voting
If you would like to apply to appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf, the deadline to apply for this election is 5pm on Wednesday 26 June 2024. In some circumstances, you can apply for a proxy vote online. If you are not able to complete the online application, you can download a proxy vote application form from the Electoral Commission’s website at www.electoralcommission.org.uk/i-am-a/voter. You will need your National Insurance number to hand when applying to vote by proxy.

As well as the General Election, voters in Rampton ward will head to the polls on Thursday 4th July 2024 to elect a new Bassetlaw District Councillor.
