The Prime Minister has announced that there will be a General Election on 4th July.
Please note if you were registered to vote for the 2nd May elections and still live at the same address, you do not need to register to vote again.
As postal vote packs cannot be printed until after candidate nominations close on 7th June, it would be prudent for UK voters living overseas to consider setting up a proxy vote now to have someone they trust vote on their behalf.
If you plan to be away on holiday on July 4th you can register for a postal or proxy vote at: www.gov.uk/vote-uk-election. You should do this as soon as possible before the deadline of 5pm, Wednesday 19th June.

Bassetlaw District Council is celebrating national recognition for the work it is doing to modernise its independent living schemes and improve the overall experience for residents.
In April, the Council was named as the winner of the ‘Neighbourhood Transformation’ category at the AICO Community Awards, held in Birmingham.

Tuesday 24th June, 10:30am to 1:00pm, Worksop Town Hall.
Bassetlaw District Council’s Tenant Forum hold face to face meetings on a quarterly basis, and invites all council tenants and leaseholders to come along.
It is an opportunity for all council tenants to find out more about housing services, hear about new service initiatives, as well as provide feedback on the range of services that we provide and the way we deliver our services to our customers.
At this month’s forum you’ll hear from our Head of Housing, Alison Craig, and the Cabinet Member for Housing and Estates, Cllr Jonathan Slater, as well as updates from the Tenant Engagement Team.
Because we want to hear from Bassetlaw tenants, Voices of Bassetlaw will tell us about the work they have been doing over the last three months and what’s next following their Annual General Meeting. You’ll also have the opportunity to ask questions.
Places are limited at the Forum, so please confirm your attendance. Food and refreshments are provided and please advise us of any dietary requirements. Level parking is available and must be booked in advance. Travel expenses and parking will be reimbursed.
Please contact your Tenant and Resident Engagement Officers for further information.

Our new Tenant Engagement Steering Group held their first meeting in March this year and have already hit the ground running with several potential projects in the pipeline.
The group gives tenants a greater voice so that it can work with the Council to scrutinise the actions contained within our Resident Engagement and Involvement Strategy. For example, the group has recently been examining the ways in which tenants can currently scrutinise the council’s housing services, and how we can enable more tenants to become involved, especially those who do not have access to digital services.
Following a successful second meeting in May, the group will meet again in July, and we’ll provide regular updates on the group’s progress through this newsletter

Healthy neighbourhood inspections allow us to look for things that will improve your area, such as removing graffiti, tackling overgrown gardens and resolving parking issues.
Each area will have at least one inspection per year, and they are carried out by your Housing Officer. People from other council departments, Nottinghamshire Police and other agencies may also attend, so that specific problems can be addressed.
We want to encourage tenants to be part of these inspections, even if it’s just for your street or to raise an individual issue, after all it is your estate, and nobody knows it better than you.
In May and June, inspections will be taking place in Worksop, Retford, Tuxford and other villages across Bassetlaw. To see when your estate is being inspected, please visit our website.
