Dog Control Order Consultation
Bassetlaw District Council is asking residents if they would like to keep the existing Bassetlaw wide Public Spaces Protection Order that relates to dog fouling and specifies areas where dogs should be kept on leads.
The Council introduced a Public Spaces (Dog Control) Order in 2015 and this was renewed in 2018 and 2021 following public consultation.
The order states that:
- Owners must pick up their dog’s faeces on any land to which the public have access.
- Owners must keep their dogs on leads in specified burial grounds, cemeteries and churchyards.
- Dogs are banned from specified fenced children’s play areas.
- Owners must produce, when directed by an authorised officer, suitable means, such as a bag, for removing dog faeces from designated land.
As Public Spaces Protection Orders last for a maximum period of three years, the Council is now seeking the public’s views on whether the Order should be renewed for a further three-year period and whether the areas of land covered, or the other requirements of the Order, should be amended.

Bassetlaw District Council has secured £3 million of developer funding to help meet growing demand for school places in Worksop.
The funding will contribute to the total cost of building of a new primary school in Gateford – Whipman Woods Flying High Academy – which has been generated through Community Infrastructure Levy and Section 106 contributions.
This is being collected by Bassetlaw District Council as part of the planning process and will be transferred to Nottinghamshire County Council at intervals as the development progresses.

Resident pays up for not cleaning up
A Harworth and Bircotes homeowner has been ordered to pay £374 by Mansfield Magistrates Court after refusing to remove waste dumped at the front of his property. Mattresses, soft furnishings, plastics, clothing, material, and food waste were seen outside the property by a Bassetlaw District Council Environmental Health Officer. The resident failed to remove the waste, which was an eyesore to the local community and raised concerns that it would attract vermin.
More Information
Homeowners who filled their back garden with a large amount of household waste and failed to remove it have been ordered to pay £1,816 by Mansfield Magistrates Court, following a successful prosecution by Bassetlaw District Council.

Have your say on Street Trading in Bassetlaw
Bassetlaw District Council is currently consulting on a new street trading policy which will set out how we license street trading (selling, display with intent to sell, or offers to sell items on, or adjacent to public roads) in Bassetlaw.
The consultation will run from Tuesday 6th February 2024 to Tuesday 19th March. The Council recognises the valuable contribution that street trading can make to the local culture and economy, and the services that street traders provide to residents and visitors. Street trading can provide people with a flexible way of working, to meet the demands of the public where and when such demands arise.
Issues can arise where street traders are not licensed with regard to their location and operation or make it dangerous for the public and road users to move around them.
Street trading can also result in littering and other nuisances to persons in the vicinity.
Our street trading policy will guide the Council’s Licencing Committee when it considers applications for street trading. It will inform applicants and the general public about how the Council will make decisions and how their needs will be addressed. It sets out the grounds upon which decisions are made about street trading applications, and any enforcement actions if required.
