West Burton STEP site

Planning permission granted for UKAEA base in North Nottinghamshire

A significant milestone preparing for a UK first in energy production, which will create thousands of jobs and attract investment in North Nottinghamshire, has been reached.

The multi-billion-pound project at West Burton will transform the power station site to support the development of STEP (Spherical Tokamak for Energy Production) the UK’s prototype fusion energy plant which aims to demonstrate electricity from fusion.

Bassetlaw District Council has approved plans for the first temporary building to be constructed on site – helping to contribute to employment opportunities, regeneration and assist in preparation for the ambitious project being led by the UK Atomic Energy Authority (UKAEA).

Overseas Voting Changes

Bassetlaw District Council is calling on residents to let friends and family living abroad know about changes to voter registration in UK general elections.

Brits who have lived overseas for more than 15 years will now be able to apply to vote after the introduction of a new law, which includes those who have previously lived in or been registered to vote in the UK.

More information is available on the Electoral Commission’s website, along with a post code lookup tool that helps voters living overseas find the contact details for their local authority, using the postcode of the last place they lived in the UK.
