UK Shared Prosperity Funding (UKSPF)

Decarbonisation Grant

Microbusinesses in Bassetlaw with less than 10 employees are now eligible to apply for grants of up to £3,000 to spend on decarbonisation initiatives that would make their company greener and improve the natural environment, whilst growing the local economy.

The grant is divided into two phases. Phase 1 will include a grant of up to £1,000 which will contribute to the costs of a building energy audit*. The findings of the audit will recommend what decarbonisation measures could take place as part of Phase 2.

Phase 2 offers a grant of up to £2,000 that will contribute to the installation of energy efficiency measures, recommended as part of the building energy audit, and support the reduction of the business’s carbon footprint.

In order to be eligible for either grant, businesses must be located and operate within the district of Bassetlaw, have fewer than 10 employees, pay business rates to Bassetlaw District Council and have no debt to the council. Licences and planning applications must be granted before the Phase 2 grant is awarded.

* Grant funding issued, as part of Phase 1 of the programme, shall only be used for payment of the Council’s procured Energy Auditor and shall be paid directly to the auditor from the Council.

Support for People and Skills

The District and Borough councils of Nottinghamshire are looking to commission a package of Support for People and Skills. This will be through a single Provider Framework Agreement that delivers against the intervention E33.

This intervention supports economically inactive people, (people who are neither working nor looking for work), to overcome barriers to work by providing coordinated, locally tailored support including access to basic skills.

Rural England Prosperity Fund (REPF)

The Rural England Prosperity Fund's Expressions of Interest (EoI) period is officially closed, and the application forms are being reviewed.

There are two stages to the application process. The initial phase of the application was the EoI. Those that are successful will invited to submit a full application. The full application period will begin on Monday, August 7, 2023 at noon and end on Tuesday, September 15, 2023 at noon. Visit our UKSPF page for more details.

Council Launches Vision 2040 Consultation

Bassetlaw District Council has launched a consultation on its Vision for Bassetlaw to 2040, including a set of ambitions that are the first steps in delivering the plan over the next four years.

Our vision is for Bassetlaw to become the greenest, most sustainable district in which to live and work, building on its legacy of energy production, manufacturing and logistics to power the net zero economy.

To deliver this vision, we have identified six strategic ‘pillars’ or foundations on which the Bassetlaw of 2040 should be built.

Identity - We will build a stronger sense of identity for Bassetlaw as a place to live and work, rooted in its commitment to powering the net zero economy.

Skills - We will develop the skills that will be needed to power the UK’s manufacturing industry and green economy, using wage growth to address deprivation and inequality.

Business - We will become a great place to ‘do business’ by proactively investing in offices, connectivity and supporting infrastructure.

Environment - We will mitigate the impacts of climate change through green energy planning, improving building efficiency and enhancing natural environments.

Facilities for all - We will promote partner investment in high-quality education, health and other facilities which should be easy for everyone to access.

Healthy district - We will encourage sustainable living and promote good mental and physical health for all Bassetlaw residents.

Plans to change business rates relief for empty property

Plans to change the criteria for claiming empty property relief in England have been published. Currently vacant properties are eligible for business rates relief for three months, or six months for industrial units. The same property cannot then benefit from a further period of relief until it has been occupied for a minimum of six weeks, known as a 'reset period'. Under the plans the reset period would increase to six months.

Meet Dawn Fear, Business Adviser

She will be working alongside our very own Business Support Advisor, Fiona Humpage and supporting mainly the business located on industrial estates and in rural locations. Dawn is an experienced business adviser with well-developed, comprehensive banking knowledge. She offers a client centred approach to provide you with honest, no-nonsense, kind and constructive support. By asking challenging questions with her critical friend approach, she encourages business owners to take the steps needed to develop and grow their business. Dawn is a practical generalist, who has a wealth of experience supporting both start-ups and established businesses to develop and grow. She can relate business theory to the day-to-day running of your business and with her sound banking and financial background, she has the expertise to assist business owners in understanding their business planning and financial needs.
