Worksop is set to benefit from £20 million of investment, after the Government awarded Bassetlaw District Council an £18million Levelling Up fund grant to transform the town centre. The Council and partners will contribute an additional £2 million in funding to support the Levelling Up project.
The funding will initially focus on the redevelopment of the Priory Centre including the creation of a new family-focused leisure facility with activities such as tenpin bowling, indoor soft play, a trampoline park and a café. The scheme will look to retain existing occupiers and bring in new tenants for empty units. The works will also create a new towpath link along the Chesterfield Canal, improve a green corridor through the town centre, and bring two sites forward for the development of new apartments and town houses.

If you don’t have an accepted form photo ID
If you don’t already have an accepted form of photo ID, or you’re not sure whether your photo ID still looks like you, you can apply for a free voter ID document, known as a Voter Authority Certificate. New rural crime prevention officer to enhance safety
Victims of rural crime are set to be given free security upgrades to prevent their properties and vehicles being targeted and to make them feel safer.
A dedicated full-time rural crime prevention officer has been appointed in the last few weeks. David Elms will soon be getting to work assessing the needs of rural crime victims and implementing a range of so-called “target hardening” measures to make it more difficult for criminals to reoffend.
The measures could include installing CCTV and motion sensor lighting to prevent break-ins, and measures to prevent vehicle theft such as gating and installing concrete blocks to restrict access.
The £200,000 project – funded by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Nottinghamshire’s Safer4All fund - will help secure rural homes and businesses across the Bassetlaw and Newark and Sherwood districts, which include some of the biggest rural spaces in the county.
