Residents and business in Worksop are being encouraged to share their ideas for improving the town centre, as part of a new bid to the Government’s Levelling Up Fund.
Later this year, Bassetlaw District Council, working with partners, including Brendan Clarke-Smith MP, will be submitting a bid to the Government’s ‘Levelling up Fund’ to transform Worksop Town Centre. As part of this process the Council wants to get as many views as possible to ensure that the bid is supported by the local community.
To help shape the bid, the Council are asking for your views to prioritise one of three areas within the town centre. The Council would also welcome suggestions and ideas on how to improve the town centre. These areas build on themes from the Worksop Town Masterplan approved in 2020, as well as addressing issues such as flooding, traffic problems and empty shops and units.
The three possible bid areas are:
- The Priory Centre and surrounding area
- Bridge Street and surrounding area
- Upper Town around the Savoy Cinema
To take part in the consultation, visit our Levelling Up page where you can find a map of the areas, information on the key themes and fill in a short online survey. Paper copies are also available from reception at Worksop Town Hall and Brendan Clarke Smith MP's office . The survey is open from 8th February until 15th March.
The Government is yet to publish its guidelines for the second round of the Levelling Fund. All of the suggestions and ideas submitted to the Council will be considered alongside the new guidance once published. There will be a further round of consultation in April ahead of the final bid submission.

WISE approach to littering & dog fouling
Bassetlaw District Council is extending its commitment to make our district a cleaner place to live, visit and work thanks to a new environment enforcement partnership.
From 1st February 2022, the Council will be working with Waste Investigations Support and Enforcement Limited (WISE) to target people who deliberately drop litter and fail to clean up after their dogs.
Over the last 18 months, the Council has been taking a firm approach to littering and dog fouling by working with Environmental Enforcement Officers who have the powers to issue Fixed Penalty Notices of up to £100 should they witness people littering or failing to clean up after their dog. In this time Officers have issued 86 notices for dog fouling and 3,735 for littering.
