Get Boosted Bassetlaw & Local NHS Update
Every adult in the country now needs to get a Covid-19 booster vaccine, because two doses does not give you enough protection against catching the Omicron variant of Coronavirus. A booster jab gives over 70% protection from the new variant. You can book your Covid-19 vaccines and booster vaccines online.
NHS staff across Bassetlaw are working hard to deliver the COVID booster campaign in response to the government’s recent announcement. Local GP practices are working together to both respond to this significant challenge and continue to offer support and care for those with urgent needs. If you have an appointment, come in as planned – you will be contacted if things need to change to allow NHS staff to support vaccinations. There are a range of alternative services available in our community to support people.

NHS 111 If you have an urgent, but not life-threatening health problem you can now contact NHS 111 first to find out if you need to go to A&E. NHS 111 can book you an appointment at your local A&E or emergency department if this is assessed as appropriate. This means you will have an allocated time to attend hospital and be treated, so you don’t have to wait a long time to be seen and can also help services avoid becoming overcrowded. Your NHS 111 advisor or clinician could also make you a direct appointment with a GP, Pharmacist or Urgent Treatment Centre. They may also be able to give you the advice you need without using another service. NHS 111 can also help if you have an urgent medical problem and you’re not sure what to do.

Opening windows for short periods of time can reduce the risk of Covid-19
Now the days are shorter and we are spending more time at home or inside, it is important for us all to take steps to reduce the risk of COVID-19 indoors.
COVID-19 is spread through very small droplets released when we breathe out. Letting fresh air in for just 10 minutes, regularly, can help remove these small coronavirus particles lingering in the air. By doing this, the risk of COVID-19 infection can be reduced by 70%.
Even opening the windows for short periods of time will allow fresh air to circulate and will reduce the risk of COVID-19. Ventilation is also important if someone in your household has Covid-19. If someone you live with is self-isolating, keep a window slightly open in their room and keep the door closed to reduced the spread of contaminated air to other parts of your home.
This guidance does not cover single person households, though it is advisable that single households still follow this guidance if they have visitors in their home.
Some tenants may be concerned about ventilating their homes in the winter temperatures, especially in the current climate of rising fuel costs. If you are having difficulty heating your home, you may be able to claim financial and practical help.

Covid 19: Get a Test
About 1 in 3 people with COVID-19 do not have symptoms but can still infect others.
Rapid tests help to check if someone has COVID-19. If people test positive and self-isolate, it helps stop the virus spreading.
Even if you're vaccinated, you could still catch the virus or pass it on. Doing rapid tests helps to protect yourself and others.

Keep a lid on it
We know that Christmas and New Year can create lots of extra waste, so in addition to putting this in your wheelie bins, lots of items can also be taken to the Household Recycling Centres in Worksop and Retford, as well as our own glass recycling sites across the district.
Please remember that we cannot take side waste as part of our normal collections.
Please also remember that from 1st February 2022, we will be enforcing our Flat Lid policy.

Urgent & Emergency Children's Care
|
NHS Bassetlaw Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals want to hear the views local residents to help shape the future of urgent and emergency paediatric care at Bassetlaw Hospital.
£17.6 million is being invested to develop a modern centre for urgent and emergency care services at Bassetlaw Hospital, creating an ‘Emergency Village’. This offers an opportunity to locate the Children’s Assessment Unit and Children’s Outpatient Department next to the Emergency Department to make best use of specialist nursing and medical staff within the hospital.
By co-locating services, this development also provides the opportunity to secure a permanent overnight inpatient service for children and address the challenges which led to the temporary closure of the paediatric inpatient service in January 2017 due to safety concerns.
Both organisations therefore are seeking views on what local people think is important in the development of the Emergency Village and the options for the future of urgent and emergency children’s care at Bassetlaw Hospital.
The public consultation will be open until 28th February 2022.
