 Follow the 'Bin Basics'
Bassetlaw residents are being reminded of the Council’s ‘Bin Basics’ so that they can get the most out of the recycling and refuse services provided in the district.
Bassetlaw District Council is responsible for collecting recycling and refuse waste from more than 54,000 domestic properties in the district, in addition to operating Garden Waste and Bulky Waste Collection Services.
As services return to a more normal way of working, Bassetlaw District Council is asking residents to follow the ‘Bin Basics’ that will help them to reduce the amount of waste generated by their household, raise awareness of which items can go in their blue recycling bins and encourage residents to recycle more of their waste, and provide information that will help to reduce the number of missed bins.
The Council is asking residents to:
-
Cut out Contamination – In Nottinghamshire, only certain items can be recycled. Please check what items can be put in your Blue Bin for recycling.
-
Keep a lid on it! – Make sure that all your waste fits into your wheelie bin - we can’t take side-waste. If you have any excess waste, most items will be accepted at the Household Waste Recycling Centres in Worksop and Retford, as well as recycling sites and bottle banks across the district. The Council also provides paid-for Bulky Waste and Garden Waste Collection Services.
-
Never miss a truck! – Make sure your bin is out by 6am on the day of your collection so that our refuse trucks don’t miss you! Check your bin collection day.

ASICS reveals bold ambition to uplift a town's mood through the power of movement
The town of Retford has been identified as one of the most motivated places to experience an uplift by the ASICS State of Mind Index.
Following nationwide research into the mood of the nation, the ASICS State-of-Mind Index identified Nottinghamshire as the English county that most wanted a mental uplift (80%), with the town of Retford being reported as one of the most motivated to improve their emotional and mental wellbeing.
Now, ASICS, together with the support of mental health charity Mind, is embarking on a unique experiment to see whether movement can lift the mood of a whole town. For one day, residents of the town of Retford in Nottinghamshire will be invited to partake in a series of movement initiatives and measure the collective impact on their mental wellbeing.
Residents of Retford and the surrounding areas can learn more about the experiment as well as signing up to participate here: https://www.asics.com/gb/en-gb/mk/mind-uplifter

Help create a big future for Nottinghamshire
How do you want Nottinghamshire to look in 10 years’ time? This is just one of the big questions that has been posed by Nottinghamshire County Council in their ‘Big Notts Survey’ that has been running throughout August.
Feedback from the survey will form the cornerstone of the Council Plan that looks to the next 10 years and beyond whilst setting out its detailed priorities for the next four years.
Residents still have until 19th September to take part by completing the online survey or by picking-up a printed copy from all county libraries, Children’s Centres and other Nottinghamshire County Council buildings.
