 New Coronavirus (COVID 19) Measures
On Tuesday the government announced further national measures to address rising cases of coronavirus in England. There are new rules on face coverings and office workers who can work effectively from home should do so over the winter to help contain the virus. From tomorrow (Thursday 24th Septemeber), pubs/bars and restaurants will operate table service only and everywhere including takeaways will close at 10pm. There are new restrictions on the number of wedding guests and the rule of six is being extended to cover indoor sports for over 18s. Covid secure guidelines will be a legal obligation on businesses and tighter penalties will be introduced, with a new fining structure for businesses as well as the public. These measures are expected to last for the next six months. For more information on the new measures introduced visit gov.uk.

Local Government Re-organisation in Notts
Message from the Leader of the Council, Cllr Simon Greaves
Nottinghamshire County Council have announced proposals to revisit the issue of local government re-organisation in Nottinghamshire. They want to replace Nottinghamshire’s seven district councils with a Super Council run from Nottingham. Under their proposals, this Super Council would serve 828,000 people and be the second biggest council after Birmingham. I am not opposed to local government reform and when we are the other side of Covid it is something that we need to work with all Councils in Nottinghamshire to help shape.
That is why, along with the leaders of Nottinghamshire’s District and Borough Councils and Notts City Council have written to the Government asking for the opportunity to bring forward our own proposals. We are all opposed to the County's proposal for a Single Unitary Council for Nottinghamshire. Reform can be a good thing, but not if it creates a bureaucratic behemoth that is distant and remote from our communities and seeks to serve more people than some sovereign countries!

Bassetlaw Hospital Rainbow Gardens Appeal
Doncaster and Bassetlaw Teachings Hospitals (DBTH) have received £2,000 in support of their Rainbow Gardens appeal from Concillors, via the community grants scheme.
The gardens, to be created at Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospital, are to remember those in our local communities that have been lost to Covid-19, including two much loved members of staff at DBTH, Kevin Smith and Dr Medhat Atalla.
Bassetlaw District Councillors have supported the appeal by donating a portion of their community grant funding. Deborah Merryweather, Chairman of the Council and a member of Team DBTH, said: “We are delighted to support this worthwhile appeal which is very close to my heart. I feel passionate that colleagues and the local community affected by Covid-19 have a place to go to find some solitude and take time to reflect and recharge. Doncaster Royal Infirmary and Bassetlaw Hospital presently do not have any gardens on site and my local councillor colleagues and myself feel this is a much needed resource, especially in these uncertain times.”
Suzy Brain England OBE, Chair of the Board at the Trust, said: “Thank you so much to Bassetlaw District Councillors for their support, bringing us another step closer to our overall target of £35,000. We have been thrilled with the generosity and kindness from our local communities and the support we have received has meant so much to our teams and I would like to take this opportunity to say thank you.”
