Town Centres Open for Business

Bassetlaw’s High Streets and Markets are back in business with visitors, shoppers and businesses all contributing to a safer shopping experience.

Non-essential retail stores in Worksop, Retford, Harworth and Tuxford were permitted to re-open in line with Government guidance from 15th June, bringing to an end a 13-week enforced closure to help prevent the spread of Coronavirus. At the weekend, business such as hairdressers, restaurants and pubs also re-opened.

In this time Bassetlaw District Council, working in partnership with the North Notts BID, Business Forums, Local Businesses and other agencies, have put safety measures in place to keep shoppers safe and help businesses and market traders operate in a Covid Secure way.

These new measures and advice include: Street and floor signage to help people queue safely and maintain a safe distance of 2 metres apart at all times; Regular cleaning of high contact areas in the town centres; and reminding visitors to regularly wash their hands, use hand sanitiser and wash their hands when they get home.

We are also encouraging shoppers to pay by card if you can, and for those visitors who use our car parks to pay using ‘RingGo’ in order to avoid using coins or touching parking machines.

Markets return to Worksop & Retford

Market

From Fish and Fashion to Hammers and Hairpieces, market days have returned to Worksop and Retford with more traders now able to stand on Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays in line with the Governments Covid Secure guidelines.

All traders have been required to produce assessments showing how they are able to operate their stalls in a safe way, including queuing systems, social distancing and contactless payments. In addition, the Council has had to produce a detailed risk assessment, and in line with the government guidance, this is published on our website. We are currently working with traders on the Retford Friday Antique and Collectibles Market and Retford Farmers Market and will update residents as soon as we have confirmed dates for their return.

Notts COVID-19 Local Outbreak Plans

Plans have been published that outline how future outbreaks of COVID-19 will be managed in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire.

Led by Nottinghamshire County Council, the Nottinghamshire Local Outbreak Plan sets out how local government works with the NHS Test and Trace service, so that the county is prepared to contain the virus wherever and if-ever it occurs.  The plan outlines how lives will be protected using the emergency response systems in partnership with Public Health England, the NHS, the voluntary sector and the wider community.

The plans build on existing health protection roles and responsibilities as well as the specific work councils have been undertaking to stop the spread of COVID-19.
