Thanks to Barnsley Council’s Love Where You Live programme, Christ Church Ardsley’s community hall now has a brand new eco-friendly heating system, creating a cosy, welcoming space for all ages, all year round.
Local residents, the Church Warden, Stairfoot ward councillors, Ward Alliance members and our Central Area Team came together to celebrate this fantastic improvement.
From toddler groups to chair-based exercise sessions, the hall is buzzing with activity and ready to support residents this autumn and winter with a warm space to come together, take part, and feel at home.
Love Where You Live all about trying something new, making a difference, and getting involved in your community. There’s something special about feeling connected to the place you call home, so why not step out, and join in?
People taking a walk in Monk Bretton can rest their legs in comfort thanks to a new bench funded by Barnsley Council's Love Where You Live programme.
The seat near Nelson Avenue and Burton Bank Road was selected as a community enhancement project by Central ward councillors as part of the borough-wide investment in Barnsley communities.
This path is on a steep, uneven incline and is often used by older people. The residents who use this path asked for the bench, and we were happy to fund its installation.
This is part of a package of projects aimed at improving community facilities and the street scene around Barnsley as part of Love Where You Live.
The Stairfoot Ward Alliance is spreading Christmas joy with a series of community events and festive treats.
We’re delighted to invite you to three wonderful brass band concerts this December:
- Hudson Haven – Thursday 4 December from 6pm to 7pm with Barnsley Brass
- Lavender Court – Wednesday 10 December from 5.30pm to 7.30pm (limited free pie and peas) with Cawthorne Brass
- Christ Church Ardsley – Tuesday 16 December from 5.45pm to 7.15pm, with the U3As Old Blowers
Each concert promises a warm welcome, seasonal music, and free hot drinks with mince pies (except Lavender Court, where pie and peas will be served while stocks last).
Alongside these events, the Ward Alliance has been busy making Christmas special for our community.
We’re working with Forest Academy, Oakhill Primary and Hunningley Primary to get 300 Christmas Cards made to go to care homes and older people.
We’ve also handed out over 500 selection boxes to local groups, funded a reminiscence visit by Santa to a care home, and contributed towards 100 Christmas food hampers for families in need.
Come along, enjoy the music, and celebrate the season together.
