Landlands Race for Charlie Day
This year was a difficult year for the Langlands Primary School community following the heartbreaking loss of one of their own, Charlie Smith, who was in P7.
Charlie was a happy, smiley, caring and friendly boy who loved the colour blue. In his memory, the school organised a special event - Langlands Race for Charlie Day – held on Friday 13 June.
Everyone came together to make it a day to remember! On the day, pupils and staff took part in sponsored runs, jogs or walks covering distances between 1k and 5k.
The event raised money for Tayside Children with Leukaemia and Cancer (TCCL), a charity that supports families like Charlie’s when they need it most.
An amazing £8342.16 was raised!
Charlie’s family would like to thank the whole community who supported the day. It wouldn’t have been a success without your kind and generous donations.

 Making play fun for everyone!
Bright, symbol-based communication boards have been installed in seven play parks across Angus (Carnoustie Sandy Sensations, Arbroath West Links, Montrose Splash and another for traditional play parks, Monifieth Seafront, Forfar Lochside, Kirriemuir Hill, and Brechin Public Park) to support children with communication difficulties, as part of a joint initiative between Angus Council and NHS Tayside.
The boards feature easy-to-understand symbols that help children make choices, express needs and interact with others, making play more inclusive and enjoyable for all. They also include a QR code linking to a short video explaining how to use the symbols.
Our parks team secured the funding and led the installation of the boards. The selection of symbols and development of communication guidance was supported by NHS Tayside Speech and Language Therapy Team.
Thanks to Elena for coming to check out the new board at Monifieth Seafront park.
Dads Survey 2025 - Have Your Say
There are more than 400,000 dads with dependent children in Scotland—yet too often, their voices are missing from the conversations that shape policy, services, and support for families. Fathers Network Scotland, have spent over 15 years listening to dads. Now, now they need to hear from dads to help them influence change—making sure that governments, employers, and public services are better informed and more responsive to the needs of dads and their families.
This year, in addition to asking about work, home life, relationships, and mental health, they are also exploring your experiences of becoming a dad and where you turn for support.
