Arbroath Academy Wins Top Prize in Eco House Challenge
A team of young people “the Bellrock Builders of Tomorrow” from Arbroath Academy have won first prize in Timber Transformation design competition!
This exciting regional challenge, run by Timber Engineering UK and DYW Tay Cities, asked young people to design a sustainable house of the future. Out of 73 teams and over 700 pupils across Dundee, Angus and Perth, our team’s innovative and eco-friendly design earned them the top spot and a £500 prize for the school.
Diane Smith, teacher at Arbroath Academy said:
“From the creative designs to the confident presentations, it was clear how much our pupils had learned and grown through the experience. The competition was a brilliant example of what can be achieved when education and industry come together, and we’re incredibly grateful to DYW and Timber Engineering for creating such a valuable opportunity. Bringing schools and businesses together in this way gives pupils a real sense of purpose, builds key skills for the future, and opens their eyes to exciting career possibilities."
Well done to "the Bellrock Builders of Tomorrow" for this fantastic achievement!

Kai Brings the Laughs to Holyrood!
Well done to Kai Allett, in primary 3 at Tannadice Primary School, who represented Angus in the national VoiceBox joke-telling final at the Scottish Parliament.
Kai had MSPs in fits of laugher with his joke:
"I asked my sister to throw a dart at a map of the world and wherever it lands we are spending two weeks on vacation – turns out we are spending two weeks behind the fridge!"
It might not be the dream holiday, but it certainly earned a laugh! Kai did Tannadice – and Angus proud with his confidence and comedy skills.

Could You Be There When a Child Needs Someone?
Have you seen the Scottish Government’s recent call for more foster carers? There’s a growing need for people who can offer safe, caring homes to children and young people in Angus, sometimes for a short while, sometimes longer but always when it matters most.
Foster carers don’t just help with big decisions—they’re there for the everyday things too:
- getting kids to school
- helping with homework
- taking them to clubs or the park
- making sure their voices are heard.
It’s these ordinary moments that make the biggest difference.
If you’ve ever thought about fostering or are just curious now is a great time to learn more. Give our fostering and adoption team a call on 01241 464646 or visit our website.
