Last week marked Adoption Week Scotland and we were proud to join in celebrating this important event.
Throughout the week, we shared on our social media channels valuable insights about adoption, to provide helpful information for anyone considering this life-changing journey.
It was also a fantastic opportunity to introduce some of the dedicated members of our team and highlight the comprehensive, ongoing support we provide:
Sheena - Life story work with the child...
Sheena, Family Support Worker shared a memorable experience where she supported a child through life story work. Life story work is where the child can share thoughts, feelings and information to help create a real understanding of what adoption means:
“I remember undertaking life story work with a young person. The young person’s main focus was to know what her bedroom looked like when she was living with her birth mother.
"I was able to find the social worker who had visited the family home many times. The social worker was very artistic and kindly drew a life like picture of the young person’s bedroom. The young person was absolutely delighted and said it gave her a sense of identity in her young years”.

Gill - support for birth families
Gill, Family Support Worker shared a memory highlighting support with birth family time:
"I remember supporting a birth mum during family time who felt shy and unsure about being playful with her child.
"By building a trusting relationship, we helped her feel supported, break down barriers and encourage positive, meaningful interactions with her child. It was amazing to see her confidence grow and understand how play is so vital for a child’s development.”

 What a party!
On Saturday we held our adoption party in the morning with some of our wonderful adoptive families!
It was a day filled with laughter and so much fun as families, kids and our team came together to celebrate adoption.
A huge thank you to everyone who joined us – to celebrate and have fun! Check out that cake!
 That’s a wrap!
We wrapped up the week with a festive and productive day at Dobbies Monifieth, where we set up an information stand to spread the word about fostering and adoption.
With Dobbies looking wonderfully Christmassy, it was a great setting to meet people, chat about adoption and fostering and hand out information. Thanks to everyone who stopped by to learn more.
Adoption with us means you’re never alone. From your first enquiry to the years ahead, our team is here to guide and support adoptive parents, birth families and children every step of the way.
