4 October 2024
We hope you all have a wonderful and restful school holiday! We look forward to seeing the children and young people back when schools reopen on Monday 21 October.
Have a great break!
 Music to our ears!
Angus Instrument Music Service’s Annual Bands and Orchestras concert took place in the Reid Hall, Forfar last week (25 September).
Two hundred young musicians from across eight Angus school clusters, came together to perform to a capacity audience. The musicians put on a wonderful performance featuring music of Beethoven, Handel, Offenback, Dvorak, Saint-Saens, Howard Shore, Lenon and McCartney and The Proclaimers, as well as the beautiful traditional melodies delivered by the young bagpipers. The evening finale saw all 200 performers take to the stage in a rousing performance of Dougie McLean’s ’The Gael’.
Look out for the Music Service’s Christmas Showcase Concert in the Reid Hall, Forfar on 18 December!
Celebrating Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week!
This week, schools across Angus have been celebrating Scottish Women and Girls in Sport Week!
One of the highlights was the P5-P7 Girls Rugby Festival, where 50 girls from Montrose Primary Schools came together for a fun-filled day of rugby. The festival, led by Caroline from Montrose Rugby, aimed to encourage more girls to take up the sport. It was an exciting opportunity for the girls to try something new, build confidence and experience rugby in a supportive, girls-only environment.

At Brechin High School, the focus was on netball and touch rugby.
With netball being the 2nd most played school sport in Angus, this was a great way to introduce girls to new activities, helping them stay active while having fun!
If you are on X/Twitter, make sure you follow Angus Active Schools to hear about their work with schools, clubs and community groups to make sure more Angus children get active.
Join the campaign and get active!
But the excitement isn’t just limited to schools! This year’s #SheCanSheWill campaign is all about inspiring every woman and girl in Scotland to get active and lead the way.
The campaign includes a film of women and girls telling us who inspired them to get active and why they enjoy staying active.
