As we approach the end of another busy school term, we would like to remind you that the October school holidays are just around the corner.
The last day of school will be Friday 4 October, with schools reopening on Monday 21 October.
Autumn Holiday Free School Meal Direct Payments
Families who qualify for free school meals based on financial criteria will receive a payment of £24 to cover the October holidays (10 days). This payment will be in bank accounts on or around Friday 4 October 2024.
You will receive a payment for each eligible child if you meet the following criteria:
- you have a child currently in P1-P5 who is in receipt of school clothing grant.
- you have a child currently in P6-S6 who is in receipt of free school meals during term time.
If you are not already in receipt of school clothing grant or free school meals, you can check your eligibility and apply on our website.

Kids swim for £1, adults for £2 during October holidays
Thanks to funding from our Vibrant Communities, discounted swim sessions will be available with ANGUSalive through the October holidays. The offer is available for:
- family swim sessions
- public swim sessions
Bookings can be made with ANGUSalive up to 7 days in advance. bACTIVE lite membership (which is free) is needed for booking sessions.

Food Standards Agency – peanut allergy
The Food Standards Agency is currently advising people who have a peanut allergy to avoid consuming foods that contain or may contain mustard, mustard powder or mustard flour due to possible supply chain contamination with peanuts. Read more on their website.
In light of this advice, Tayside Contracts who provide our school meals are working closely with their suppliers to make sure that all the necessary steps are taken to mitigate any possible risk.
During this period of investigation and testing and based on the advice from the Food Standards Agency, please find below a list of all products provided as part of the early learning and childcare and school meals service that contain or may contain mustard in any form.
- Rice and pepper Salad
- Beef lasagne
- Lasagne
- Macaroni cheese
- Macaroni cheese pie
- Cauliflower cheese
- Cheese Sauces
- Ham and mustard sandwich
- Ham and mustard salad
- Egg and cress salad
- All mayonnaise based dips
- All mayonnaise based sandwiches/wraps/rolls/baguettes/paninis
- All mayonnaise based salads
- Coleslaw
- All sandwiches/wraps/rolls/baguettes/paninis with coleslaw
- Pasta salad
- Potato salad
- All mayonnaise and coleslaw based baked potatoes
- Adapted menu items which contain gravy (please contact FNAs@tayside-contracts.co.uk for clarity).
