This weekend we'll be celebrating Bonfire Night and whether you're attending organised events or lighting some sparklers in your garden, please make sure you know how to keep you and your family safe and always follow the Firework Code.
Spare a thought for furry family members too. Remember bigger animals such as horses can also be affected and aren't as easy to keep safe indoors. If you know there are pets or livestock near you and you're planning on letting off fireworks, please warn the owners.
Remember it is illegal to set of fireworks before 6pm and after 11pm (midnight on 5 November).
Visit Scottish Fire and Rescue Service website for advice on fireworks and bonfires.
Schools consultation
We’ve launched a statutory consultation on the proposal to administratively “close” Hayshead and St Thomas Nursery Classes. If approved, there will be no direct impact on children attending either of these settings. Instead, the change will result in the administrative records for children attending these settings being transferred to a new single Early Learning and Childcare establishment called Abbey View ELC. A revised management structure would also be put in place.
We’re holding a public meeting on Wednesday 8 November 2023, 4-6pm, at Abbey View Campus where you can find out more.
Full details of the consultation are available on the Engage Angus portal.
You have until Friday 15 December 2023 to share your views.
Launch of Brave Lassies Blether campaign
Last night we were proud to be at the launch of the Brave Lassies Blether in Montrose, a campaign raising awareness of what a healthy relationship looks and feels like and helping young people access services if they need support or feel worried or uncomfortable in their relationships.
The campaign is being delivered by NSPCC Scotland and The Young Women’s Movement in partnership with a group of amazing senior young people at Forfar Academy, Webster’s High School, and Montrose Academy.
Young people looking for support on any of the issues mentioned, can contact Childline on 0800 1111 or visit Childline.org.uk. Childline is there for all young people up until their 19th birthday. If you suspect someone is in immediate danger you should call the police on 999.
