Storm damage to Burnside Primary School
Burnside Primary School in Carnoustie suffered serious damage to its roof in the early hours of Friday 17 February 2023 as a result of Storm Otto.
An initial assessment has been carried out and confirms that the building is not safe for children and staff to attend in its current condition.
Following the mid-term break, the school building will remain closed to all children in the school week beginning Tuesday 21 February 2023.
At present, there is not a confirmed timescale for reopening the school building. Assessments are continuing and updates will be provided when they are available in the coming days.
Early learning and childcare
Early Learning and Childcare Children who attend Burnside Nursery will be temporarily relocated to Carnoustie Early Learning and Childcare Centre from Tuesday 21 February, with no change to the timings of the nursery day.
The ELCC is located at Pitskelly Park, Carnoustie, DD7 7BF and the Burnside nursery staff will be there to welcome and work with the children. Our state-of-the-art Carnoustie ELC has ample space to comfortably accommodate the children and nursery staff will be flexible at pick-up and drop-off times to support individual circumstances.
Primary school children
Primary school children (P1-7) will be provided with remote learning from Wednesday 22 February.
Class teachers will contact families directly via Seesaw after the mid-term break to provide further information and instructions. A direct payment will be made to children eligible for free school meals based on financial criteria.
Anyone requiring further information can contact Head Teacher, Mrs Jacquelynn Goodwin via the school’s phone number 01241 465371 or email Burnside@angusschools.org.uk
Thanks for your understanding and support.
